How is new glass cleaned after construction?
Carefully. Construction glass has paint, stucco, adhesive, silicone and protective film on it, and scraping it wrong scratches it — some low-E and tempered glass is especially easy to damage. Each contaminant is softened and lifted with the right product and a blade used correctly, then the glass is washed. It is a slower job than a normal clean and it is priced as one.
Why did my new windows get scratched during cleaning?
A blade dragged across glass with debris on it, or across tempered glass with a fabricating defect that leaves tiny particles on the surface. Post-construction glass is inspected first, cleaned with the blade only where it is safe and only on wet glass, and tempered glass is treated with extra care. A crew that does not know the difference is how new windows arrive scratched.
