On the day: how hard water stain removal gets done
Hard water etching is not dirt sitting on the glass — it is mineral bonded into the surface, which is why washing does nothing to it. It needs a restoration compound worked over the pane, and it is a slower job than cleaning.
Once etching is deep enough it cannot be fully removed, and we will tell you that rather than charging for a treatment that will disappoint. The fix at that point is the sprinkler head, so the replacement glass does not go the same way.

FAQ
Streaks, screens and hard water stain removal: your questions
Can hard water stains be removed from windows?
Usually, yes. The white haze is mineral deposit from sprinklers or runoff, and it is removed with a restoration compound that dissolves the mineral without scratching the glass — not by scrubbing harder. Glass that has been etched by years of deposit may not come back fully; most does. Moving the sprinkler head is what stops it recurring.
Why do my windows have a white haze that will not wash off?
Because it is mineral, not dirt, and washing does not touch it. Sprinklers hitting the glass, water running off a roof or a stone wall, and hard water spray all leave it. It is a different job from a wash, with a different product, and it is worth doing before the deposit etches the glass.
